Fall harvest operations continue across the State of Iowa. Even though crops were ready, persistent rainfall patterns across many areas of the state delayed early harvest activity. Early yield reports that have come in have been quite strong in eastern Iowa, while early yield totals in other areas have tended to be more variable, especially in the central, north-central, and northwest crop reporting districts. A more complete accounting of yield results will soon be reported. Despite variable growing season conditions in Iowa, expectations were high for prospective yields totals.

The 2018 version of the fall harvest season is continuing across the State of Iowa. A more complete accounting of yield results will soon be reported. Despite widespread early season struggles, as we approached fall harvest, expectations were high for prospective yields totals. Time will tell if pre-harvest expectations were met, or not, and the answer to that question will likely to show up to impact the land market this season.

The conclusion of the 2018 growing season is rapidly approaching, and harvest operations are officially beginning in the central Corn Belt. Like many years, there has been a good deal of variation in weather across the state of Iowa during 2018, and the various weather patterns have impacted growing conditions. Many areas have enjoyed a generally smooth growing season, with adequate moisture throughout the spring and summer (central and east central).
Revisiting the Roadman’s
Last Summer, when we talked with Larry Roadman and his family, they were in the early stages of a new conservation program. Today, that program has proven to be successful in the family’s quest for good stewardship.

The 2018 growing season continues across the State of Iowa and the Midwest. Since spring planting, rainfall patterns have ranged from scarce across much of southern Iowa, to excessive in the north-central and northwest regions, while the east-central region has had average to adequate moisture levels.

Even though the 2018 planting season wasn’t the smoothest in recent memory – with particular struggles in the northern tier of Iowa Counties – our current growing season is well underway, and crops are developing.
